Ingenious-ish

This package receptacle on Hall's Chapel Road is weatherproof and equipped with a cable and pulley system that allows the mail carrier to open it from the car.

At this point, one assumes, the mail carrier hurls the package from the car window into the package drop, so maybe there are still some bugs in the system. Or perhaps my understanding of it is incomplete.

Happy to explain - the pulley system lets us check for packages without having to get out of the car. Unfortunately for delivery people (and for us) if a package is delivered the system does require some effort. However, the first package left inside was accompanied by a little thank you note from a weary driver that can now forego our 1/2mile driveway.
